Man, I have NEVER seen an abuse department actually do something I've considered constructive.

This goes for all abuse departments from official businesses down to little rag tag groups like those policing LiveJournal.com

I see no reason for making it easier You miss the point. Implementing such a feature doesn't make it any easier for the people you're talking about, the feature only makes it easier for normal users. It's like saying you're not going to release a telephone with voice encryption because you don't wa...

People want as much Privacy as possible.... I know that in denmark lots of organisations are using IPs to claim money from people sharing illegal mp3s and movies... I see no reason for making it easier to track people down You couldn't use the IP anyway for blocking, since no blocking system is ava...

Just a note that an idle checker could also be useful in a similar way. Test for idleness in the same way as instant messenger.

(and meermeer, I PMd you about the QoS stuff)

I have an ADSL dynamic ip connection. The ip changes every x days - doesn't it mean that i'll loose my rating? Not necessarily. Who said ratings had to be tied to ip address? We'll have to discuss it further, but as far as I'm concerned users shouldn't even be tied to one computer. You know, go ove...

Re: What about 100Mbit Full Duplex ppl?

QoS? That is one of the clients you can install on the network card right? I have that installed, I had no idea you could do that - how excatly would I go about limiting DC++ to 10Mbit? I only know how to do it under Linux, sorry. I know you Windows guys are dealing with an inferior OS and all, but...

Right, like a person launching a ddos attack wouldn't know the command netstat.

Well then again...

Re: What about 100Mbit Full Duplex ppl?

But there are a select few users (I know of about 250+) who use DC++ on a University LAN, which means we are all connected at 100Mbit Full Duplex, a nice rate of 10Mb/s! What university do you go to? And how is 100FDX equal to 10Mb/s? :) So my problem is not so much about bandwidth, but a much more...

Re: Ratings server and protocol

My question was mainly how client B knows what client A has for a username at ratingsserver C. Good question. I'd hate to put yet more information on already (appearantly) overburdened hubs. Does DC currently give clients any way of knowing if another user is authenticated? The whole ratings server...

Re: User Rating System

Putting runtime dependancies on a particular location is probably not a good idea, and this really sounds like it should be a part of the hub software. If a ratings server is down and so no ratings are available, the client should just assume that people are unrated. In other words, the ratings ser...

Re: Ratings server and protocol

We had working answers for all of this stuff in the old threads. I can't remember any of them, though, so I guess we're starting over. To reiterate, one of the goals for this, I think, should be that it can work with or without the cooperation of a hub. It would be preferable to have that cooperatio...

Should definately only be implemented optionally.

I'm against it, myself, unless it's opened up so that any user or user group can be granted automatic slots and ops are treated just like any other user or usergroup.

We're not doing something wrong, ADSL is doing something wrong. We have to implement a Hack to correct this inaccesible mistake there. I assume you're referring to the "set the limit to 75% of max speed" idea. It's just not incredibly doable without tremendous expense of bandwidth just measuring th...

Greetings, Volkris. Nice seeing your name float around in the forums again, even if it is with a flame-teasing post... but then again, you had a penchant for those even on "ye old forums". ;) Yeah, I was in a fun mood :) This goes for malicious "reporting" users, too. Have you looked into Tiger Tree (or something like that) hashes? From what I understand they have built in segmentation kind of thing.

Look it up. When we developed the hash idea fully last time, long long time ago, someone brought the idea of the Tiger hash and it sounded great.

This again? While I was upgrading the version of DC++ on my girlfriend's computer I figured I'd hop on over to ye old DC++ forums to see what's going on. It's funny to see that the same old conversations are going on with the same old level of cluelessness. I only skimmed this thread, since I've pro...
