Both error messages are (potentially) symptoms of corruption along your network path. Check that all your cabling is tight and not bent/crimped/worn.

What DC++ version are you running?

Was that the exact error message? If it is a problem with safe and compressed transfers, the error message will be different. The message you mentioned sounds more like a WinZIP or WinRAR message.

The way he phrased it, the benefit is from easier port forwarding by users. I just don't think that's a compelling reason, when everything else is based around single ports, not ranges. (Near as I can tell, the single port is probably justified by the exact same argument.)
