Well, since the passive $SR is insignificant in auto-search replies since they are 1<-->1 and not broadcasts.ivulfusbar wrote:

But, what good is a single source that is an alternate for, say 10 files? Well, I guess it depends how large those files are. But, if we are talking >100MB, then that single source is practically null in 9 of the other files because he can't upload *that* to you until he is finished uploading the *...

Re: Autosearch Tweak
And would someone please explain to me exactly how downloading filelists lowers the strain on hubs? I understand that you obtain the filelist from the alternate source (which was found via the hub, anyway). And I am under the impression that subsequent searches also resort to looking in the filelis...

oohh yes, another follow-up on the subject. In the protocol you can search in the following ways, "Normal (no size restrictions)", "Atleast size", "Atmost size". Some also support a more or less hackish way to send "Exact" size. It is not possible to search for between size x and size y on outgoing ...

This is a little bit dangerous if you don't know the exact size. You could possibly find a match of a file which is 20GB large, and with a fast connection your harddrive will soon be filled. So, you probably have to set a max size aswell. But you can more or less almost do this now, the only problem...

this has already been accomplished using scripts. I know Sedulus have done it atleast. But its not fool-proof in the current protocol. Hubs currently have problems with Passive users as always, so you will have some troubles making a foolproof solution to 100%. So you should think this through and y...

(2) As far as cyberal's suggestion, what about multihomed hubs? Better is to have $CTM pass on a randomly generated token/cookie that's passed pack to the uploader upon connection so it can identify the hub it came from.

well, it depends on what the hubs can handle, and how they treat the information. But if we look at the rest of the protocol, ip should be used. I would like to argue that the "killing the bandwidth" theory is an ignorant grasp in the air. Shows how much you know about the problems for certain hubs. best solution is to search for one file, and then grab filelists from people you got match from, and then use match queue. Some clients/mods (not in any major release i know of) use an agressive tactic instead and add extra source on all files below in the hirarkie. This might increase the use of $c...

I don't like how Connect is done. As it is proposed now, its not possible to use multiple share in different hubs, i.e., it has the same flaws as the current DC-protocol. the point is that autosearchs is not a good thing from a bandwidth point of view. Approx 95% of all searches sent to your client is probably an autosearch.
