dcgui-qt is a good client, if you can't get the filelist, the users modified the client themselves and are just like ordinary fakesharers - use DC++k to get them (it's not instantaneous, but it's fast enough, and there's almost no way to get past that)

Hashing is an absolute must: I've had just too many corrupted transfers with DC, so lately I'm downloading only off xmule (linux port of emule; constantly downloads around 60 kB/s for me) - I only use DC if I need a missing episode quickly (==I'm impatient) , when I don't care if I get some corrupti...

$ClientVersion reminds me of HTTP User-Agent - most browsers send it, so that the servers could collect statistics, however some servers (*cough*MSN*cough*) discriminate on this information. I remember when I just started using GetRight (long time ago), some servers didn't allow me to download with ...

While the tiger tree hashes might be the best, the disadvantage is, that there aren't any hash databases available on the 'net for them... OTOH, there are some extensive ed2k MD4 databases out there... Besides, how much practical advantage does tigertree have over MD4? unless the hashing process is ...

Re: This really should be added...
My theory is that cheaters will ALWAYS cheat. Regardless of what safeguards are put into the program, as long as it is open source, those with malicious intent will succeed. Open-source has nothing to do with cheating. There are cheats available for just about any P2P program, open or closed source...

hmm... shouldn't there be a "incomplete downloads" directory (like in KaZaA :P) and not bother anymore with that 8-alphanumerical-stuff at the end of each file ? There is. Johner has a point though... you should be able to see the size of each file in the "Download to..." submenu... No point in thi...

PartitionMagic runs in DOS, Win9x and WinNT/2k/XP, but it really is overkill.
As for NTFS under Win9x/ME: SysInternals have some tools for that (though AFAIK the free version only supports reading of NTFS volumes)

I'm not sure if I understand what you mean - lossy compression can only be used for audio, video and still images - and those have each their own defined fromat. Your CPUs ability to run and process information is directly linked to clock cycles, simply more clock cycles means more data can be processed or more programs can be given time to run or protect systems & services, you slow things down enough you can get into any system because the time allotted t...

IMO, it would be better for DC++ to report it's downloads - if uploads were reported, everybody could fake, but it's much harder to do so with downloads. As for sending a command to the hub, it's OK IMO, as hubs should ignore unknown commands (if they don't, it's bad design), and downstream bandwidt...
