DC++ is GPL, so you don't need permission. You have to make the source code available under the terms of GPL though.

wxWindows (wxWidgets to be precise) uses GTK by default on *nix. I'm against any desktop environment dependencies, as I want to be able to run P2P on older hardware.

dcgui-qt is a good client, if you can't get the filelist, the users modified the client themselves and are just like ordinary fakesharers - use DC++k to get them (it's not instantaneous, but it's fast enough, and there's almost no way to get past that)

If the description tags were put in front, their format would have to be changed - currently the (good) scripts read the last tag in the description, because some users fake their tag by inserting it into their description. If the tag was now moved in front, these scripts would break...

My theory is that cheaters will ALWAYS cheat. Regardless of what safeguards are put into the program, as long as it is open source, those with malicious intent will succeed. Open-source has nothing to do with cheating. There are cheats available for just about any P2P program, open or closed source...

Stimorol wrote a script. It's ugly. Basically, it sends $ConnectToMe to the client with the hub's listening address and then fetches $Lock from the status window.

It is possible to retrieve $Lock/Pk via a script, however the script would probably not work properly on hubs with more than 20-30 people...

1:1 would needlessly limit your own downloading capacity - I'm limiting my uploads at the network layer, having the max upload speed set to 60 kB/s and max download to 270 kB/s... guess what, I still upload much more than I download - however when I do download, I'm able to get things fast.

This will break in existing PtokaX hubs. DCGui used to send the commands in this order, and wasn't able to connect to any PtokaX, as it requires $GetNickList before $MyINFO (it's the same with some other hubs)...

PartitionMagic runs in DOS, Win9x and WinNT/2k/XP, but it really is overkill.

As for NTFS under Win9x/ME: SysInternals have some tools for that (though AFAIK the free version only supports reading of NTFS volumes)

To make a patch, use diff -Naur file.cpp.old file.cpp > my.patch, and then to apply this patch, run patch -Np1 < my.patch . If you don't run it in the correct directory, it'll nicely ask you which files to patch.

The 3 extra slots are used for file lists and for files under 16 kB - so even if your filelist is 100 kB, it will still be downloaded through the extra slot if all normal slots are taken.

IMO, it would be better for DC++ to report it's downloads - if uploads were reported, everybody could fake, but it's much harder to do so with downloads. As for sending a command to the hub, it's OK IMO, as hubs should ignore unknown commands (if they don't, it's bad design), and downstream bandwidt...
