It would be a good feature if it wasn't abusable. Until then, I'm an anti-capper. I should have put that into the “myths section, but I thought it was obvious from everything else. Ratio's can work, but they are only needed to pacify those who don’t understand the reasons why cap...

Sure, as long as you want hacked clients to be more popular than DC++ ...
The point of that poll was show everyone else what we already know. We dont need to lie.

When you cap, you leave DC++ on.

Alternatives

Indeed, there are so many solutions I did not think it was necessary to mention them. I dont think we should encorage hacked clients, or netlimiter, as they usually avoid sharing the information with other dc users with a special tag. This is one of the reasons the DC community has become so diseased.

Now that nmdc has a cap

I want to start a petition to get proper bandwidth management into DC++ Lack of bandwidth management has caused the DC community to become diseased. Fakeshares, slot blockers, auto-kickers, modem fishing, unpopular files, min slots, are all there because it is painful to share. I want to share, shar...

That isn’t a problem caused by capping. Capping doesn’t start out at 20k/sec and then go down. In fact I find that most people who cap are doing something else, because they don’t have to micro manage their connection. I am fairly sure you were "pushed out" by another download. ...

I find it strange that those opposed to bandwidth management tend to be troll's. If you don't like it then give us a thoughtful reason why (be sure to read the thread, even if its very long). here's a good reason why it should be included (shameless plug) http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/forum/view...

Yes, lets ignore those who the "small send buffer" does not work, or those who get "pushed out" by other connections. I think it’s an important issue you brought up. Should we 'redirect' inefficient connections? Also could we give an extra slot reserved for modems/slow connections? Ideally I ...

Sorry. I thought the second link was the same and I didnt read it.

Still, when you see someone in violation of the gpl you are supposed to report it.
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.htm ... gViolation

Now we have even less of a chance to get that code.

You're supposed to provide the source code by mail-order on a physical medium, if someone orders it. You are welcome to offer people a way to copy the corresponding source code by FTP, in addition to the mail-order option, but FTP access to the source is not sufficient to satisfy section 3 of the G...

http://dcpp.netfirms.com/

This isnt violating GPL if he agrees to send anyone who asks the source code ... through snail mail even and its not like you cant contact him just ask, dont abuse the system to forward your own agenda. So i'll ask right here. Can you, Danzig, give us the source? All i'm asking is for the core code,...

auto-detecting limit

Reading the above posts shows that auto detecting is trickier than it looks. As I have said before, only the user knows best how much bandwidth he/she has/needs. The problem isn’t finding out how much bandwidth they have, it is enforcing sane bandwidth management. I agree that both normal DC+...

It hurts to share

Now only few people use modified client because they either don't know about possibility or because modified clients patch versions lag too much behind official dc++ released (the patch for current dc++ version is issued quite late). As only few users use it, suspicious ones can be quite easily det...

I think, this is perfectly fair as guy on the fast network quickly get what he want and then he will stop slowing down others and will make the slot free. In fact very few of fast users keep downloading large amounts of data from single source. I'm one of those fast ones and I know what I'm talking...

If there are any developers reading this, lets keep the rants down to a minimum (myself included) and give them a good idea of what we want. Why is an upload limit is needed? - prevent people from using non-standard clients - keep group/shared connections sane (e.g. 10mbit) - lag/choke problems not ...

The day any other client with similar features plus limiting comes out, I'll say goodbye to DC++. If the developers want to make sure most ADSL users will not use their program, it's their choice. Just wait some and the DC++ will come back into "exotic clients" category. Is that what you want? http...

DC is a community who’s only limitation is upload speed. The slots system worked with this, a control is needed to finish it. I would _prefer_ not to have a user connect to me with a u/d ratio slowing down their download from MY computer. Seriously, the only reason I use a bandwidth limiter i...
