Lol. Gotta say that was one of the lamer attempts of stealthy advertising i've seen. Todi im not sure what your refering to, if your suggesting someone at intradream was advertising through the post made by Roger_Willis then you are incorrect, as far as I (Tim Marin) know this post was not affiliat...

I dont know c but im guessing that code connects to an ftp and downloads a file and returns the speed of the download. WOW what a horible way to judge speed. for one theres no upload test from what i can tell wich would be the thing really that would be good to know and there is also way to many fac...

I think that multisource will hurt DC and eventually be the death of it, not because of corupt files necisarly but because of isp bandwidth ratios. if your downloading at your max d/l your uploading is going to suck much the same as if ur uploading at your max your download will suck. People WILL wi...

i think its about as bad as the origional "tag" idea. I agree, but see my comment about the original tag idea. the fact is unless arnet makes his own network closed source with some crazy ass encrypted protocol people will fake no matter what information is sent. i think hashing has helped move dc++ to support in the future varius meta data especially the invention of xml filelist. I had a feature like this in an old version of IDC Pre multisource code. it was much like you have laid out.. there was a DMDS(Default Min Download Speed) then u could also set the MDS manually for each transfer.. if there was more then one source available it would try the next source if the speed ...

u can also tiger hash an entire file.. I'm curious whether you can find an example of this in the wild. SHA1, by contrast, is very common in this role. what do you mean where can you find an example. Tiger hash was not specificly designed for Tree hash's the fact that it is used for THEX by varius ...

I would like to know why Tiger was chosen? SHA1 ... One good reason in my mind is that sha1 hashes are full-file hashes, making a sha1 hash tree would confuse the namespace, and perhaps lead to more confusion. I dont see where the confusion is.. u can also tiger hash an entire file.. the Merkle tre...

The idea of rating is IMO not very good, because as we all know the servers only know what we tell them. say u have 2 ip address's all of a sudden the rating system is out the door when u stick a fake client on both and notify the server u just uploaded 500 mb file from one and downloaded a 500 mb f...

Re: Hashing
I would like to know why Tiger was chosen? SHA1 from what I have read can process hashes 2X as fast as Tiger (on a 32 bit platform). THEX/SHA1 would be very secure for a hash tree and easier for me to add to my client  . but as im sure this has been pointed out this Tree structure wont stop "h...
