if your 50 slots are legit, I'm sure you are sharing as many slots? Most hubs don't have rules suggesting you can only DL from as many slots as you are ULing, so I don't really know what you're getting at. If you just wanted to say that you don't like the fact that occasionally I get 50 DLs going a...

you are what we refer to as a "slot hogger".. baaad for DC! Well, since I pretty much only hang out in hubs with 1000+ users and am always connected to at least four hubs, my 50 slots are spread out over a minimum of 4000+ people across 4 hubs. In any case, most of the time my total slots are aroun...

Absolute & Porous DL Slots

I didn't find a thread relating specifically to absolute & porous DL slots, so I thought I'd mention it even though it is a little obvious. If it were possible to set an absolute limit on download slots in addition to the porous limit I believe it would be useful. For instance, currently I have the ...

I guess a flag could be set for each item in a folder to move the folder on complete I'm wondering if it might be possible to use a tagging scheme for individual files in order to distinguish when items should be moved. For example, imagine a situation where 24 files are destined for folder B and u...

I don't know if that's any simpler (or more complex) than the other solution. I agree. I also think any eventual solution to this issue should be simple, so scratch the tagging idea. The text file might work though. To add to the previous idea, the text file could be titled with the main message an...

He wants to have confidence that a given directory is complete when it shows up in his Finished folder. Well, how about having a "tag completed directories" option? When a directory is deleted from the queue because the last file has finished downloading, the end of the downloaded directory could b...

They want (I presume) downloads started from directories (in the file list or "Download Whole directory") to be kept together as a logical unit So, is the point of this to make it more likely to be able to keep someone's slot until all available files inside a directory are downloaded? Or is there ...

The incoming directory would then serve as incoming files only and would not contain complete downloads and the new dir would contain only completley finished downloads. Isn't this already possible? Or are you talking about having directories corellating with the directories in completed downloads ...

Mass Rename In Download Queue

I didn't find any older threads about this, so I thought I'd mention it. I often find myself renaming a lot of files (episodes in a television series are a good example) to fit certain criteria in order to display things properly upon download. Example: Different files in a sequence are downloading ...

Honestly, I can't say I've personally experienced any great need for the ignore feature in my everyday DC existance. Maybe that's because anyone truly annoying seems to get banned rather quickly in the hubs I hang out in. I have a pretty large share with popular files, but people are always polite w...

As far as notifying the blocked user, I think the simplest approach would be to send an automatic return message everytime the blocked person sends a message. I thought the original idea here was to send the person who initiated the blocking a message indicating someone attempted to communicate wit...

What about an idea to have a message sent back only once, similar to an auto-away, telling them you've been ignored. Well, if it's going to send them a message saying you've been ignored, it might as well provide the content of your initial message as well. Then again, if there's some sort of count...

I think any ignore function should require you to select specific users to ignore. If there were a general ignore function then I see numerous problems that could come up (even if it were impossible to ignore OPs). One such scenario is if you're downloading a video from someone, but want more inform...

Would an /ignore command be fundamentally bad if it allowed a user to ignore an OP's chat?
What if it were made so OPs were impossible to ignore?

Then again, I'm not sure I want this feature as I like the openness of the DC community.

Just use Netlimiter If everyone uses NetLimiter to bring their UL down to 1 kb/s, then no one will be downloading much of anything. If you use a bandwidth attenuation method, please be responsible and allocate at least one quarter of your DL bandwidth to UL. Blatantly cheating with your bandwidth i...

It only seems fair that users who provide high badwidth should be given the highest possible downloads whilst those who are stingy with thier bandwidth should not enjoy the same luxury. I agree with you up to a point. I think it's perfectly reasonable to limit shameless leechers who use massive ban...

I personally think that these are no way near as bad as NetLimiter and that most modded clients dont deserve to be banned. I entirely agree with you there. The cheater clients I was referring to in my previous post are clients specifically modified for the purpose of cheating. I would NOT in any wa...

Rather than going through the difficulties of trying to detect who's capping, wouldn't it be easier to just introduce a capping mechanism into DC++ with a defined UL/DL ratio and then just run searches for known modified cheater clients? Admittedly, this doesn't detect bandwidth-controlling apps lik...
