Guessing/deciding non-standard MIME types on our own? So if MIME

Ok, then use the *nix program `file' - wich can easily be ported to any
type of OS, or atleast with some if it's functions. And therefor using a
shared magic.mime (a file that provides data to guess mime types) can
easily be done - if that's the problem.
The current way to determine file types isn't pretty slick, so that's
why (at least) I am trying to figure out a new one.
And all other suggestions for deciding filetype have been so far to have
it being based on filextensions, wich is not the same!
Using a shared magic.mime may not be the best way, but atleast the best
suggestion so far.
